AEW, My Opinion.

AEW, My Opinion.

Whilst this blog is intended to focus on less popular Indy scenes I feel that it's important for us to cover what could possibly become the most popular wrestling company in the world. Whilst I feel that a lot could go wrong with the company, if it focuses on delivering unique, high quality content it may be able to resist the forces that  will hold it back.

One fear I have about AEW is that it won't appeal to casual WWE fans or even people that don't watch wrestling. To most people the main selling point of AEW is the fact that Cody and the Young Bucks are running the company. Whilst you could say that these are the early days of the company and that they haven't had their first show even and so it is impossible to say whether it will be able to draw in viewers from WWE and make new wrestling fans out of nowhere. I believe that whilst AEW might be able to draw new people to wrestling it seems it'll mostly just take viewers from WWE and other companies.

Whilst the idea of having very well payed wrestlers seems great and it'll lead to happier wrestlers this plan may cause the company severe money based issues. Unless if AEW is somehow the most successful wrestling company ever I believe that the company will suffer losses for a while until its able to build up a bigger name. However this could be countered by a deal with a large Tv channel or deals with toy and video game companies. I feel that money wise AEW is going too far too fast and I fear that this will end up harming the company.

On a more positive side I believe that AEW will bring in a new era for wrestling where we'll see more companies rise to the level of WWE. This increase in competition might harm certain companies but it is guaranteed to lead to more high quality content for the viewers. Companies like WWE and NJPW need to firstly book certain wrestlers better but also try to draw viewers in by delivering some of the best wrestling you can see so as to compete with the threat posed by AEW. My fear with this though is that less popular companies will die out due to their viewers being drawn away by these bigger companies.

Overall I feel that whilst AEW is likely to deliver good quality wrestling I feel certain factors will hold it back and these factors could potentially cause it to have to restructure. I fear that a restructure might involve a decrease in payment for talent and restrictions on talent especially in the creative department. If the company restructures like this I fear that certain talent will leave and maybe those who want leave WWE for AEW might need to keep this in mind and if they do move to AEW they may later leave in case of a restructure. There's a reason for few companies on the scale AEW is trying to reach that allow for their talent to have creative control and this is because it can lead to issues with booking and most importantly it's appeal to investors.
